Personal profile.

My name is Yoan Tranholm Reed.  I came to the UK in 1989 from Denmark.

In 1997 I qualified as a midwife. Before, during and after my training I had three children.  It was while living in London during my first pregnancy, that I discovered Active Birth and Yoga. This wonderful approach had a profound influence on how I perceived pregnancy and birth.

I became an Associate of the Active Birth Centre in 2004 after completing the teacher training modules. The founder of Active Birth, Janet Balaskas, and her colleagues were a great inspiration to me. It was through their teaching, that I was once again challenged to reflect on my professional perception of the birth process, and review my personal goals.
It is through the Active Birth Centre and other professional bodies like the RCM (Royal College of Midwives), that I continue my personal practice and my professional development.

Through years of training and working in the field of childbirth I have acquired a grounded and extensive knowledge of normal pregnancy and birth physiology, and experience in caring for both. Although my role as a teacher does not substitute the attention of a midwife/obstetrician delivering antenatal care, attending these classes will compliment many areas of pregnancy advice and education.

The Active Birth and Yoga preparation will help remind you of the amazing physiology of creating new life and giving birth, and that this can become part of your birth experience.  The support and involvement enjoyed between women is invaluable at this intimate time of life, and I feel privileged to be part of it.
